Four Christians from the same family were shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in the southern Pakistani city of Quetta on Monday 2 April 2018. Islamic State (IS) later claimed responsibility for the attack.

Armed men on a motorcycle opened fire outside the home of a Christian family in the Shah Zaman neighbourhood of the city.

A relative of the four men killed told journalists, “They were guests of ours, they came from Punjab [province] to celebrate Easter. As they left the house to go to the bazaar after dinner … they were fired upon.”

A statement released by IS the following day claimed a “covert unit” had “managed to target a number of the combatant Christians … [which] resulted in the killing of four of them, and all praise is due to Allah."

In December 2017, IS terrorists killed nine and injured over 50 Christians in a suicide attack on a pre-Christmas service at Bethel Memorial Methodist Church in Quetta. Among those affected were some of the poor and needy families who receive monthly food parcels from Barnabas Fund.
