Nearly 2,000 Christian families in Iraqi Kurdistan received food parcels funded by Barnabas Aid earlier this year.
They are among tens of thousands of Christians who fled to the region in northern Iraq to escape the occupation of their historic homes further south by Islamic State (IS – also known as ISIS, ISIL, Daesh).
Many live in poverty and still suffer discrimination as an ethnic and religious minority. They are also at risk from attacks by Turkey aimed against Kurdish militants.
“Thank you for thinking about my family,” said one of the recipients.
“Sometimes we have to borrow money to cover our rent and food,” said another. “This month we won’t need to.”
At its height IS controlled a third of Iraqi territory as part of a caliphate that also included a quarter of Syria. IS was ousted from its Iraqi territory in 2017, but most of the displaced have been unable to return.
Praise God for His provision to His troubled people in Iraq. Pray that He will continue to sustain and to help them as they face poverty and discrimination.
