Kachin Christians who have fled attacks by the Myanmar (Burmese) army are already being helped by aid from Barnabas Fund.
Barnabas has delivered rice, clothes and tarpaulins for shelter, to assist Kachin Christians across eight different locations.
The tarpaulins give much better protection against the elements for the makeshift houses which the Kachin Christians have had to construct.
A total of 1,500 school-age children have also been given stationery and books, so they can still continue to learn, despite being displaced. Barnabas Fund’s project partner writes that continuing education will “help them recover from the traumas, and create a sense of normality.”
As many as 10,000 civilians from the mostly-Christian Kachin ethnic minority have been displaced by the army’s latest offensive, which has been described by independent reports as a “genocidal campaign”. The army is using the same brutal tactics which triggered the flight of more than a million Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar.
