These were the words of a Barnabas Aid project partner in Lebanon, a country being torn apart by the widening Middle East conflict.
Lebanon’s Christians are suffering the consequences of a war that they did nothing to start and have no way of ending.
Cold and hunger
Historic Christian lands in southern Lebanon are at the centre of the fighting. Tens of thousands of our brothers and sisters have fled the region to seek safety in Lebanon’s north-west.
Whole families have made the dangerous and difficult journey north. They have left behind homes that have been in their families for generations. They have abandoned farm lands and church buildings.
Many Christians are among the displaced families who have nowhere to stay
Others have left behind their homes and livelihoods in Beirut, the capital city, which is under regular bombardment.
Crucially, they now have no means of supporting themselves. Cold and hunger will follow trauma.
