Praise God that church minister Stephen Echezona has been rescued from his kidnappers in Anambra State, south-eastern Nigeria.

Echezona was abducted while refuelling at a petrol station in Anaocha Local Government Area (LGA) in the late hours of 22 March.

A joint security team of military and police pursued the kidnappers, who in the early hours of Sunday 23 March abandoned their captive in order to escape.

Another minister, John Ubaechu, was released on 27 March. He had been abducted in Oguta LGA, Imo State, on his way to a church service on the day Echezona was released.

In recent months Matthew Hassan Kukah, a senior church leader in Sokoto State, has said that the church is facing “an epidemic of kidnappings”.

In early March the abduction and murder of Sylvester Okechukwu, who ministered in Kaduna State, sparked outrage across the country.

Praise God for the rescue of our brothers. Give thanks that their ordeals were relatively short and that both were unharmed. Pray for an end to the kidnapping epidemic plaguing the Church in Nigeria.
