Christian families in Kyrgyzstan are facing a critical situation as winter takes hold, reports a Barnabas Aid contact in the region.
Impoverished and marginalised, these believers lack the money to buy food and any means of warmth.
At the time of writing, the temperature in Kyrgyzstan is -7°C. Winter temperatures average -12°C and can dip as low as -40°C, causing not just discomfort but danger to health. Inflation has led to a 20% increase in food prices.
Many of the Christians are Muslim-background believers, despised by their neighbours, their families and their former friends. These converts suffer threats and hostility. Some have lost jobs because of their faith.
They can no longer rely on the help of their earthly families. Could you – their spiritual family – step in to provide what is needed?
Can you show the love of Christ to those who have come to know Him for the first time?
Barnabas project partners are working to provide food parcels and coal for some of the most desperately needy families.
These families are all members of churches in central Kyrgyzstan.
We greatly value your prayers. Could you please pray for these impoverished brothers and sisters of ours, asking the Lord to supply all their needs “according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
Could you consider making a donation to support this work?
Can you show the love of Christ to those who have left behind so much to become part of His family?
How you can help
Prices are variable owing to Kyrgyzstan’s steep inflation, but these are the current estimates.
$35 could provide a parcel containing food (including meat, pasta, rice, flour and sugar) and hygiene items that will sustain a whole family for a month
$50 could provide enough coal to keep a family warm through one month of the harsh Kyrgyz winter
$128 could make a significant contribution towards a new furnace for a church to keep their congregation warm during the cold winters
