“No food, no shelter, no clean water, no medication. … We are left with nothing.”
This was the stark assessment that Isaac – a South Sudanese Christian displaced by flooding – gave to our project partner.
Isaac spoke for many affected by recent devastating floods. More than a quarter of a million people were forced from their homes by the rising waters.
“All our crops and belongings have been destroyed by the flood,” continued Isaac. “Many houses collapsed and many goats died. … The whole community is affected.”
To make a dire situation worse, the authorities in South Sudan have declared a cholera epidemic. By the end of November there were already more than 1,000 cases.
“No house left standing”
“It has never flooded here the way it has flooded now,” said Tibitha, another displaced Christian. “In our villages, there is no house left standing.”
“Our situation is getting worse, particularly for the small children and elderly,” she adds. “Our children are always feeling cold, and we have no blankets or clothes to cover them.”
Barnabas Aid project partners are working to meet the urgent needs of 1,000 highly vulnerable households. Our priorities are to provide food, clean water, blankets and shelter to those who have no other earthly means of support.
“We are praying to God to hear our prayers and provide,” says Isaac. Can you join him in praying that the Lord will meet the needs of His people?
“I thank God for you who have come and witnessed our situation,” adds Tibitha. Can you help us to do even more, and to alleviate the hardship faced by our brothers and sisters in Christ?
