As part of our commitment to proactively seek ways to provide empowerment and opportunity to marginalized Christians, Barnabas Aid is drawing up plans to provide IT access to a million Christians worldwide.
In an increasingly digital world, where IT and computing have become necessary for communication, education and economic development, internet access is a lifeline.
While computers have become widespread in the Western world, communities across the Majority world often lack the digital access that they need. In Africa, for example, only a third of people have access to the internet.
Addressing this digital divide is vital to provide opportunity for marginalized non-Western communities – among them, our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Christians are often among the most impoverished and marginalized of people.
Barnabas Aid wants to help. For 30 years we have supplied urgent and emergency aid to the suffering and persecuted Church. But we have also sought to provide opportunities, to create long-lasting change, to help construct sustainable futures.
To this end we have set ourselves an ambitious target. We want to provide computers and internet access to a million Christians around the world.
Our plan is to ship computers and provide internet access – along with electricity generators, solar panels and desks – to Christian communities around the world.
The containers that carry this equipment will have a special design – they can be repurposed as tech hubs, where children and young adults can come to get the digital access they need.
We can provide persecuted Christians with the ability to connect with the world. These tech hubs will allow recipients to communicate with their families, access online learning and connect with others in the global Christian community. In areas of extreme isolation, these containers are more than just tech hubs - they are beacons of hope.
Could you donate towards the cost of shipping, computer equipment or specially designed containers? Will you pray for the success of our plans? “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps” (Proverbs 16:9).
