“No food, no shelter, no clean water, no medication. … We are left with nothing.”
This was the stark assessment that Isaac – a South Sudanese Christian displaced by flooding – gave to our project partner.
Isaac spoke for many affected by recent devastating floods. More than a quarter of a million people were forced from their homes by the rising waters.
“We are praying to God to hear our prayers and provide,” says Isaac, one of those displaced by the floods. Will you join our brother in prayer?
“All our crops and belongings have been destroyed by the flood,” continued Isaac. “Many houses collapsed and many goats died. … The whole community is affected.”
To make a dire situation worse, the authorities in South Sudan have declared a cholera epidemic. By the end of November there were already more than 1,000 cases.
“No house left standing”
“It has never flooded here the way it has flooded now,” said Tibitha, another displaced Christian. “In our villages, there is no house left standing.”
“Our situation is getting worse, particularly for the small children and elderly,” she adds. “Our children are always feeling cold, and we have no blankets or clothes to cover them.”
Whole communities had to move to drier ground, taking with them only what they could carry. Can you help provide for those who have lost so much?
